Job summary

Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, KS is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse to join the Clinical Decision Unit. The CDU is a 12-bed short-stay unit bridging the ER and inpatient care, focused on observation and extended evaluation.

As part of HCA Healthcare, you will collaborate with RNs, CNAs and managers to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Requirements include ADN/BSN, active RN license in Kansas, BLS, ACLS within 90 days, and 1 year of acute care experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited nursing school with ADN or BSN.
• Currently licensed as a registered nurse in Kansas or in an active compact license.
• Basic Life Support required; ACLS to be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition during admission and each shift, noting changes.
• Perform procedures or functions as ordered by the medical provider.
• Document care in the patient record promptly and thoroughly.
• Administer prescribed medications and monitor response.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The CDU Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care. In collaboration with medical providers, the RN provides care to patients who need extended evaluation, monitoring, treatment or observation but do no clearly need full inpatient admission. The CDU RN serves as an advocate for patients to support an unparalleled patient experience.

About this unit:

• The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) is designated 12-bed short-stay unit specifically for observation patients.

• Patients will be moved and monitored in the CDU bridging the ER and inpatient units or when further medical evaluation is necessary to determine treatment plan.

• Unit will include Patient Care Techs, RNs, CNCs and Manager.

What you will do in this role:

• Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.

• Perform procedures or other functions as ordered by the medical provider.

• Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.

• Perform the administration of prescribed medications and monitors response.

• Maintain a knowledge of medications, procedures, and equipment used in the care of cardiac and medical-surgical patients.

What qualifications you will need:

• Graduate of accredited nursing school, ADN or BSN required

• Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation BLS required. ACLS to be obtained within 90 days of hire

• 1-year acute nursing (ED, ICU, PCU) experience, required
