Job summary

Mercyhealth Freeport Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician (PRN) to collect, label, and process blood and other specimens with strict patient identification and safety protocols. You will support registration, data entry in HIS/LIS, and ensure timely delivery of samples while providing compassionate patient care.

The role requires proficient phlebotomy skills, adherence to infection control, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a variable PRN schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of a phlebotomy course or prior phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Certification as a phlebotomist is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect, label, and process blood and other patient specimens.
• Accurately identify patients using two identifiers.
• Enter patient data and orders in the HIS/LIS and release results.
• Maintain specimen integrity and proper transport to the appropriate section.
• Provide patient instructions and comfort during collection and care.
• Adhere to safety and infection control procedures at all times.
