Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health seeks a Lactation Consultant to provide expert breastfeeding support across childbirth and postpartum care. This PRN role offers flexibility for coverage based on department needs and patient volume.

Experience as a Registered Nurse is preferred. Responsibilities include education, hands-on coaching, documentation, and collaboration with the healthcare team to promote breastfeeding success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• IBCLC certification required.
• BLS certification required.
• RN license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized breastfeeding and lactation education, support and consultation to patients and families.
• Educate healthcare team and parents on breastfeeding benefits and evidence-based practices.
• Assess readiness and develop plans to support successful breastfeeding.
• Provide hands-on guidance with positioning, latch and feeding techniques.
• Support use of breast pumps and provide instruction on proper use.
• Collaborate with nurses and providers to support breastfeeding goals.
• Educate the healthcare team on guidelines and resources.
• Document lactation assessments and responses in the medical record.
• Participate in quality improvement and data collection related to breastfeeding outcomes.
• Provide discharge education and post-discharge follow-up as needed.
