Job summary

University Hospitals Pain Management is seeking a PRN Specimen Processor/Phlebotomist at Elyria Medical Center. The role includes procuring and processing specimens, performing phlebotomy and related lab tasks, and providing support to the department.

The position supports inpatient populations with shifts on 1st or 2nd shift, involving PHI handling and adherence to UH policies. Training and independent problem-solving are expected.

• Procures and processes laboratory specimens, providing essential lab support.
• Organizes and performs tasks efficiently to meet departmental turnaround time standards.
• Performs data entry and lab procedures including sterile technique, aliquoting and phlebotomy.
• Processes specimens for laboratory testing.
• Competent in collection or processing of specialized samples.
• Acts as a trainer and is a resource to other Specimen Processor Phlebotomists.
• Works with minimal supervision and solves problems independently.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain PHI.
• Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
• This position is PRN.
• Shifts available: 1st shift: 4:00 AM or 4:30 AM; 2nd shift: 2:30 PM or 3:00 PM.
• Will provide coverage for UH employees on PTO, LOA and staffing shortages in the department.
• Inpatient population.
• Location is Elyria Medical Center.

• Performs computer data entry, laboratory processes including sterile technique, aliquoting and/or phlebotomy
• Processes specimens for laboratory testing
• Competent in the collection or processing of specialized samples.
• Performs with minimal error rate.
• Acts as a trainer and is a resource to other Specimen Processor Phlebotomists.
• Needs minimal supervision and problems solves with little or no supervision.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
• Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
