Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Histologic Technician II - Anatomic Pathology on a PRN, part-time basis at the Winston Campus. Responsibilities include embedding and microtomy, specimen processing and staining, and slide preparation for Pathologist review.

Qualifications include an associate degree or higher with two years histology training; three years of histology lab experience preferred; HT (ASCP) certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or HS diploma with two years of histology training as defined by ASCP/NSH.
• Three years' experience in a clinical histology lab preferred.
• HT (ASCP) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to hospital standards and promotes a cooperative work environment through communication and teamwork.
• Accessioning, labeling and billing of specimens with accuracy and timeliness.
• Process and stain specimens accurately according to department practices.
• Prepare slides with special stains and enzyme histochemistry for Pathologist evaluation, acting as team leader when delegated.
• Continuously improve skills through self-study and continuing education.
• Contribute to smooth operation of the section and department.
• Follow policies to prevent spread of bloodborne and airborne diseases.
• Represent the laboratory professionally in line with hospital and department standards.
