Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provides patient testing before and after rehabilitation including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance.
• Provides exercise prescription for patients using test data and current status; updates prescription as needed.
• Recognizes contraindications to exercise and abnormal responses; adjusts plan accordingly.
• Responds to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
• Provides exercise information for patients, peers and the community, including education classes.

As a PRN Exercise Physiologist, a caregiver in this role will develop individualized exercise prescriptions and oversee exercise progression for patients with cardiovascular disease in a cardiac rehabilitation setting. The caregiver will provide direct patient care to individuals recovering from open heart surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention, supporting patients throughout acute and outpatient phases of recovery. This role will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across multiple sites to care for complex patients who have undergone advanced cardiac procedures while providing high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitation services.

This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position will work Monday through Friday during daytime hours, with variable start and end times. Full-time and part-time caregivers will rotate a half-day Saturday shift from 8:00am to 12:00pm. No holiday coverage is required. This position will provide coverage at both Mercy Hospital and North Canton.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provides patient testing before and after rehabilitation including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance.
• Provides exercise prescription for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen; updates prescription according to patient response. Implements concepts of cardiac secondary prevention.
• Recognizes contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise.
• Responds appropriately to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
• Provides exercise information for patients, peers and the community which may include public speaking and education classes.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in exercise-related field
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross for Healthcare Providers

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and ability to help patients stand and walk.
• Will require some lifting, bending, twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients.
• Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $25.50

Maximum hourly: $25.50
