Private Equity Fund Controller (“Fund Controller”)

Location: Remote

ETC Overview

Energy Transition Capital Management (\"ETC\") is a U.S.-based private equity firm investing in and developing critical American energy infrastructure. Our mission is to deliver market-leading, net, after-tax returns to investors through investment in highest-value U.S. energy infrastructure assets. With deep expertise across the U.S. power sector, ETC is positioned to deliver innovative energy solutions that create lasting economic, societal, and environmental impact, supporting the next century of America’s energy and economic leadership.

The Role

ETC is seeking a Fund Controller to lead the financial reporting, accounting, operations, and compliance functions of its private equity funds. This individual will be responsible for overseeing fund accounting, investor reporting, portfolio valuation support, audits, tax coordination, and regulatory filings while ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, transparency, and internal controls.

Working closely with the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, the Fund Controller will play a key role in building and scaling the firm's finance and operational infrastructure as the platform continues to grow. The position offers broad exposure across fund management, portfolio monitoring, accounting, tax, and strategic operations, with significant interaction with investment professionals, investors, fund administrators, auditors, and external advisors.

The Fund Controller will play a key leadership role in developing and mentoring the finance and fund operations team, fostering professional growth and building internal capabilities. As the firm expands, this individual will be instrumental in identifying resource needs, establishing scalable processes and controls, and shaping the long‑term structure and capabilities of the accounting and finance function.

We are seeking a highly analytical, detail-oriented, and experienced accounting and operations professional with a strong understanding of private equity fund structures and reporting requirements. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing investment firm, contribute meaningfully to its development, assume increasing leadership responsibilities, and help establish best-in-class financial and operational processes.

Key Responsibilities
Fund Accounting & Operations
  • Oversee all fund accounting and operational activities in coordination with third‑party fund administrators, valuation providers, auditors, tax advisors, and other service providers.
  • Review and reconcile fund financial statements, capital account statements, waterfall and carried interest calculations, expense allocations, subscriptions, distributions, and net asset value (NAV) reporting.
  • Monitor fund liquidity and cash management activities, including wire approvals, cash analyses, and capital planning.
  • Support investor reporting processes and respond to investor inquiries related to fund financial information.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of fund books and records and adherence to established accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist in developing and implementing scalable operational processes, internal controls, and reporting frameworks to support the firm's growth.
  • Provide technical accounting leadership and hands‑on review of complex fund and entity accounting matters, including investor allocations, expense allocations, carried interest, valuation accounting, and financial statement disclosures.
Management Company, General Partner, and Investment Company Accounting
  • Oversee accounting and financial reporting for the management company, general partner entity, and the investment companies, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
  • Review and approve invoices, expense allocations, payroll‑related reporting, vendor payments, and annual information reporting requirements.
  • Manage accounting systems and expense management processes to ensure accurate allocations and timely and accurate financial reporting.
Audit & Financial Reporting
  • Serve as the primary liaison among the firm, fund administrators, and external auditors.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual audit processes, including preparation and review of financial statements, supporting schedules, valuation documentation, and audit deliverables.
  • Review audited financial statements and related disclosures to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Establish and maintain audit calendars, timelines, and deliverables across all entities.
Tax & Regulatory Compliance
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors, fund administrators, and legal counsel on federal, state, international, and fund‑specific tax compliance matters, including investor tax reporting and Schedule K‑1 preparation.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable fund structures and tax programs, including Qualified Opportunity Fund (QOF) requirements and related testing.
  • Maintain tax and regulatory filing calendars and ensure timely completion of all filing obligations.
  • Oversee entity‑level compliance requirements and maintain all entities in good standing across relevant jurisdictions.
Entity Management & Legal Coordination
  • Support entity formation, governance, and ongoing management activities across the firm's fund, management company, and portfolio structures.
  • Maintain organizational charts, entity records, filing requirements, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal and external legal counsel regarding structural changes, regulatory developments, and governance matters, ensuring relevant stakeholders are informed and appropriate actions are taken.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Partner with the Chief Operating Officer and external compliance consultants to support SEC regulatory compliance, internal policies, and ongoing compliance monitoring.
  • Maintain compliance documentation, testing schedules, certifications, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Support firm‑wide risk management initiatives, including cybersecurity awareness, vendor oversight, and operational controls.
Strategic & Cross‑Functional Support
  • Collaborate with investment, operations, legal, tax, and investor relations teams to ensure accurate and timely financial information flow across the organization.
  • Provide financial analysis and operational support for new funds, investments, financing activities, and strategic initiatives.
  • Evaluate service provider relationships, negotiate vendor engagements, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, controls, and scalability across the platform.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to senior leadership in building the financial, operational, and compliance infrastructure of a growing private equity platform.
Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple service providers, including fund administrators, auditors, tax advisors, valuation firms, and legal counsel.
  • Strong technical accounting, financial reporting, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience with complex fund structures, multi‑entity organizations, and institutional investor reporting requirements.
  • Experience with Qualified Opportunity Zone (QOZ/QOF) structures and related compliance requirements is a plus.
  • Prior experience directly supervising accounting, fund accounting, or finance professionals is required. Demonstrated success in managing and developing team members, overseeing workflows, and building scalable processes within a growing organization.
  • Highly organized, self‑motivated, and capable of operating independently in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across investment, operations, legal, tax, and investor relations teams.
  • Comfortable working in a remote or hybrid environment while maintaining a high degree of responsiveness and accountability.
  • Interest in energy infrastructure, or energy asset investing is preferred; experience with solar, battery storage, or related project‑finance‑backed investments is a plus.
