Job summary

NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Sergeant I to supervise Correctional Officer I staff at Tyrrell Prison Work Farm, ensuring custody, security, and inmate welfare. The role reports to a supervisory lieutenant and requires strict adherence to policy and scheduling to cover shifts.

Minimum education is a high school diploma or GED with two years of correctional officer experience; candidates must meet certification requirements and pass background checks.

Qualifications

• High School or GED diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer.
• Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
• Candidates must pass a criminal background check, and produce a negative drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-line supervision to Correctional Officer I’s in minimum-custody facilities.
• Oversee officer activities and performance; ensure custody, security, and welfare of inmates.
• Arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage and implement procedures.
• Ensure rules and policies are followed according to department guidelines.
