Job summary

The State of Nevada, through the Nevada Department of Corrections, seeks a Chaplain to manage and deliver spiritual care at Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City. You will arrange services, visit housing units, and counsel inmates on spiritual needs and crisis situations.

You will oversee volunteers, coordinate interfaith activities, and provide orientation for staff and inmates on religious programs, while ensuring security and respectful conduct across all chaplaincy activities.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of correctional programs, diverse faith groups, and inmate needs.
• Theologies, doctrines, liturgies, scriptures, and crisis counseling.
• Interpersonal counseling skills and ability to conduct group education.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, schedule, and deliver spiritual care and religious programs.
• Provide pastoral presence throughout the institution via visits and ministry.
• Counsel inmates on spiritual needs; advise condemned inmates on wills and disposition of remains.
• Coordinate volunteer programs and interfaith activities.
• Supervise religious activities and maintain security procedures in assigned areas.
• Educate staff and the public about inmate spiritual programs and needs.
