Job summary

The City of New York Department of Correction is seeking a Chaplain to provide spiritual care and counseling to people in custody, staff, and visitors. The role includes leading religious services, coordinating programs, and ensuring compliance with all laws and standards.

The chaplain will operate within a diverse environment across facilities, delivering rites and sacraments, and supporting humane services while aligning with city policies and PSLF programs where applicable.

Qualifications

• Ecclesiastical endorsement by the official endorsing agency of the candidate's faith or denomination and by the Committee on Chaplaincies.
• Experience leading chaplaincy programs and providing pastoral care within a corrections environment.
• Ability to coordinate religious services, counseling, and community engagement with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and coordinate religious education classes and services.
• Instruct religious education classes and organize study groups.
• Administer rites and sacraments and provide individual and group counseling.
• Coordinate congregate and community engagement events with internal and external partners.
• Notify next of kin in serious incidents involving those in custody.
• Enter data related to chaplaincy services accurately and timely.
• Schedule and supervise religious volunteers and ensure compliance with laws and policies.
• Collaborate with staff to support institutional programs.
