Job summary

Oliver Inc. in Fitchburg, MA seeks a reliable 2nd shift press operator to support quick make-readies, steady production, and quality on folding carton work. You will review orders, set up plates, maintain inks and fountain systems, and assist the Lead Pressman.

Responsibilities include densitometry checks, minor maintenance, and training apprentices in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year operating a multi-color offset, flexographic, or gravure press, or serving as a 2nd Pressman/Feeder on a multi-color offset crew.

Responsibilities

• Review job orders, department instructions, proofs, save sheets, and specifications before each run.
• Support make-ready: install/remove plates, blankets, and coating blankets; pack plate/blanket cylinders per machine and paperboard requirements.
• Set and fine-tune side guides, head stops, gripper fingers, and double-sheet detectors.
• Maintain fountain solution conductivity and tank levels; replenish inks, coatings, and offset powder.
• Retrieve, mount, and return inks and plates; wash ink units, blankets, cylinders, and fountain tanks between jobs.
• Set up and use scanning densitometers to verify color and density; assist in identifying and segregating non-conforming materials.
• Perform preventative maintenance support, including roller changes and minor repairs.
• Remove finished product from the press and stage to the correct area.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment; assist with training Press Apprentices; cover the Lead Pressman during breaks.

you'll be the trusted second on press - powering quick, accurate make-readies, steady production, and reliable quality. Partnering with a Lead Pressman, you'll turn detailed specs into finished folding carton work that meets exacting standards.

Schedule

2nd shift, 3:00pm to 11:30pm.

What you bring

• High school diploma or GED; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Accurate color vision; comfortable with fractions/decimals; basic computer skills preferred.
• Minimum 1 year operating a multi-color offset, flexographic, or gravure press, or serving as a 2nd Pressman/Feeder or Assistant Pressman on a multi-color offset crew.
• Preferred exposure: 4-color process; Mitsubishi press; blanket changes, cylinder packing, wash-ups, and fountain systems.
• Highly valued: experience with paperboard, UV inks, in-line coating, and scanning/handheld densitometry.
• Sharp attention to detail with continuous in-process inspection; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
