Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Project Manager in Boston with extensive experience in water and wastewater infrastructure. You will lead large programs from planning through closeout, mentor teams, and manage client relationships for public and private sector clients.

The role requires a PE license in MA, 15+ years of experience, strong leadership, and proven BD ability. A hybrid office model supports collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

• BS degree in civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Massachusetts, or ability to obtain licensure through comity within six months, is required.
• 15+ years of progressively responsible experience planning, designing, and delivering water, wastewater, stormwater, and CIP programs.
• Demonstrated experience managing large, complex municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects throughout the project lifecycle.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships and serve as a trusted advisor to public and private sector clients.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring project managers, engineers, and technical professionals.
• Strong understanding of project delivery, commercial management, contract administration, risk management, and project controls.
• Experience leading business development efforts, including client engagement, capture planning, proposal development, interviews, and contract negotiations.
• PMBOK/PMP or DBIA/BCEE or other relevant professional certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage and execute wastewater, stormwater, and water utilities planning, design, and construction projects.
• Serve as senior client representative, developing and maintaining long-term relationships with key clients.
• Lead large water/wastewater capital improvement programs from planning through design, procurement, construction, and closeout.
• Lead project teams in planning/design, supervising and coordinating multiple assignments.
• Establish and review project scope, schedule, budget, staffing plans, and performance.
• Account for project financial performance, profitability, forecasting, resource planning, and risk management.
• Apply engineering and scientific principles across broad assignments.
• Lead business development, client capture, and contract negotiations.
• Mentor project managers, engineers, and staff to support delivery excellence.
