Job summary

K&A Power Group in Binghamton, NY seeks a Principal Engineer to lead transmission line design on major capital projects. You will oversee line design, structure selection, plans and profiles, and routing decisions, using PLS-CAD to ensure TM and NESC compliance.

Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, 15+ years in line design, PE licensure, and proficiency in MicroStation/AutoCAD are required. Office-based in New York with a competitive benefits package and salary.

• 15+ years of line design experience including plans and profiles.
• Proficient in Microsoft Project.
• Proven transmission design experience.

• PE required.
• On-site role; local NY residency required.

Responsibilities

• Lead overall transmission line design for all capital projects.
• Review and design transmission line plan and profile drawings using PLS-CAD to comply with TM/ NESC standards.
• Drive transmission line routing and strategy—decide rebuild vs ROW expansion; determine structure designs; optimize crossing counts.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Principal Engineer to join our team at K&A Engineering in Binghamton, New York. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. The Transmission Engineer / Lead Engineer / Principal Engineer is responsible for the following functions:

• Conductor Selection
• Structure recommendations
• Line Design: Plans and Profiles, Cross section details
• LiDAR and aerial photo data
• Utilization of wetlands, vernal pool and sensitive resource data in line and structure design and placement Detailed estimate and probability modeling
• Other studies as required to complete the projects Lead overall transmission line design for all capital projects
• Review/Design transmission line plan and profile drawings using PLSCAD to ensure compliance with Avangrid TM standards and NESC/other standards
• Drive the project plan for transmission line routing and strategy, specifically:
  • Decide whether to rebuild existing lines or obtain additional right of way based on area congestion and local politics/permitting issues
  • Determine required structure designs based on design constraints
  • Determine routing in and around into congested stations to optimize design/reliability and minimize the number of crossings

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a strong background and knowledge of all utilities engineering disciplines
• 15 years or more of Line Design: Plans and Profiles, Cross section details
• Proficient in Microsoft Project
• Proven experience in Transmission Design
• Professional level skills in MicroStation, AutoCAD
• PE Required
• In office- Must be local to New York

Pay Range: $120,000-$135,000/annually
