Job summary

K&A Engineering in Connecticut is seeking a Lead Transmission Engineer to join our team. You will drive the overall transmission line design for capital projects, lead design efforts, and ensure compliance with TM standards and NESC requirements.

In-office role, experience in EPC/Mega projects and PLS-CAD proficiency are essential. The position requires a BS in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) and 10+ years of relevant experience, with strong client interaction and mentoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in substation or transmission.
• Ability to perform engineering responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Strong EPC/Mega project experience.
• Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Ability to guide and mentor junior team members.
• Regularly meet and correspond with clients or external personnel.
• Support business development and marketing initiatives.
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and problem-solving.
• PE license highly preferred.
• Local to Connecticut and in-office availability.

Responsibilities

• Lead overall transmission line design for capital projects.
• Review and design transmission line plans using PLS-CAD to meet client standards.
• Drive routing strategy to optimize design, reliability and ROW use.
• Decide rebuild vs. new ROW based on congestion and permitting.
• Determine structure designs and routing in congested stations.

Lead Transmission Engineer

to join our team at K&A Engineering in Orange, Connecticut. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. • Conductor Selection
• Structure recommendations
• Line Design: Plans and Profiles, Cross section details
• LiDAR and aerial photo data
• Utilization of wetlands, vernal pool and sensitive resource data in line and structure design and placement
• Detailed estimate and probability modeling
• Other studies as required to complete the projects
• Lead overall transmission line design for all capital projects
• Review/Design transmission line plan and profile drawings using PLSCAD to ensure compliance with the client’s TM standards and NESC/other standards
• Drive the project plan for transmission line routing and strategy, specifically:

• Decide whether to rebuild existing lines or obtain additional right of way based on area congestion and local politics/permitting issues
• Determine required structure designs based on design constraints
• Determine routing in and around into congested stations to optimize design/reliability and minimize the number of crossings

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience within substation or transmission.
• Perform engineering responsibilities without assistance and minimal supervision.
• Must have strong experience working on EPC Projects or Megal Projects.
• Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures
• Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members.
• Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel.
• Support business development and marketing initiatives.
• Strong attention to detail, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving
• PE license highly preferred
• In Office- Must be local to Connecticut

Pay Range: $115,000-$120,000/annually
