Job summary

Lumentum Operations LLC in San Jose, CA, seeks a Principal Thin Film Process Engineer to lead PVD and EB evaporation efforts in a high-volume wafer fab. You will shape dielectrics, oxides, and metals coatings, ensuring robust, scalable production with tight process controls.

PhD or Master’s in a related field with 10+ years in semiconductor processing is required. Expect leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and opportunities in advanced photonics manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field with 10+ years in semiconductor process engineering.
• Hands-on experience with Sputter/PVD and EB Evaporator systems in high-volume manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• SME for PVD (DC, RF, Reactive) and EB Evaporation.
• Leverage thin-film kinetics to tailor optical, structural, and mechanical properties for multilayer stacks.
• Oversee vacuum hardware including turbo pumps, MFCs, and pressure controllers.
• Lead cross-functional process changes for Copy Exactly matching across tools.
• Drive CIP projects to sustain and improve high-volume manufacturing.
• Improve recipe robustness and cycle-time to reduce Cost of Ownership (COO).
• Lead RCA and FMEA for systemic yield detractors.
• Use Pareto analysis to optimize tool-to-tool matching and reduce defects.
• Develop automated process health monitors using Python, MATLAB, or JMP.
• Own end-to-end equipment procurement from specs to SAT and HVM qualification.
• Collaborate with Planning, Quality, and R&D on PCNs.
• Coach and develop a team of engineers and technicians for technical excellence.
