Job summary

Lighter Than Air seeks a senior Systems Safety Engineer to act as a principal technical authority within the Systems Engineering function. You will own the system-level safety, verification, and certification strategy for major lighter-than-air vehicle programs and mentor staff across disciplines.

As a senior leader, you will drive architecture for complex system-of-systems, apply MBSE methods, and coordinate audits with regulators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or related engineering field with 8+ years of experience; or Master’s with 6+ years; or PhD with 3+ years.
• Broad mastery across subsystems beyond the core area; aerospace/system engineering with certification lifecycle experience.
• Proven, hands-on experience conducting System Safety Assessments and related safety analyses to ARP4754A/ARP4761.
• Expertise in system-of-systems architecture, interfaces, and end-to-end verification and integration.
• Strong leadership to mentor engineers and drive cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Innovate system-safety approaches for high-stakes integration and certification and own the safety strategy.
• Conduct and own SSA and supporting analyses (FHA, PSSA, FMEA/FMECA, FTA) per ARP4754A/ARP4761.
• Architect and validate complex system-of-systems and set program-wide architectures.
• Apply MBSE with tools like Cameo/MagicDraw to support requirements, design and interfaces.
• Lead vehicle program architecture, verification, and certification strategy including DO-178C/DO-254.
• Coordinate certification deliverables across subsystems and act as SME in audits and regulatory interactions.
• Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams and mentor senior engineers.
• Establish partnerships with suppliers and regulatory airworthiness authorities.
