Software Development Engineer in Test - Software Principal Engineer (I8) - Austin US

Our Test Engineering team is responsible for testing, evaluation, and validation of all our devices. We design and develop software for platforms, peripherals, applications, and diagnostics, using advanced technologies, tools, and methodologies. We develop test cases and tools to ensure product functionality and compatibility, from preparing test programs to recommending changes and designing new testing equipment.

What you’ll achieve

As a SDET - Software Principal Engineer, you will develop sophisticated systems and software aligned with customer needs and business goals. You will work on architecting and qualifying next-generation Remote System Management Software, enabling Dell's customers to remotely provision server hardware and firmware efficiently. You will utilize latest server, firmware, networking, and storage technologies to qualify integrated solutions.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and optimize power and thermal management systems for enterprise servers.
• Perform thermal simulations and analysis for efficient heat dissipation and cooling solutions. Architect test and diagnostic programs, design test fixtures and tools, and complete validation specifications and procedures.
• Innovate test processes and methodologies, working with developers to develop automation and test tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, software, and mechanical engineers for integration.
• Design validation plans for System Management Software, Server, Firmware, focusing on Dell's Remote Management Controller, including test cases, scripts, and project scope.

The ideal candidate combines subject matter expertise, industry experience, and product development understanding to contribute to business results through quality, advice, and decisions. Emphasis on automation validation strategy is key.

Requirements

Essential:

• Strong knowledge of programming languages, operating systems, firmware, device drivers, databases, system/network/OS/application administration, embedded software/firmware, tools/utilities.
• Experience with thermal simulation tools (e.g., CFD software) and power management techniques.
• Proficiency in coding/debugging and guiding others in complex program development.
• Experience with multiple programming languages, databases, hardware platforms.
• Ability to define and document Software Lifecycle and QA methods for projects.

Desirable:

• 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 6+ years with a Master’s degree.
• Experience evaluating automation opportunities using Analytics or AI techniques.
• 5+ years in iterative development methodologies (Agile/SCRUM, TDD).
• 5+ years developing test automation using Python, Perl, XML, C, C++.

Compensation

Salary range: $162,000 - $198,000. Dell is committed to fair pay practices.
