SanMar is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to own the architecture and modernization of the Compute platform, spanning Windows Server, Linux, VMware, and Azure. You will codify the stack with Terraform and Ansible, and drive CI/CD pipelines through Azure DevOps.

The role includes leadership in incident response, platform design reviews, and cross-team mentoring. The position is hybrid with a WA-based office in Issaquah; travel and after-hours work may be required.

Competenze

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
10+ years of hands-on enterprise infrastructure experience.
Deep expertise in at least two of Windows Server, Linux, VMware, and Azure.
Experience designing and operating infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.
Hands-on experience building infrastructure as code with Terraform, and configuration management with Ansible or equivalent.
Experience delivering infrastructure through CI/CD pipelines with version control and automated policy or security checks.
Strong automation and scripting ability (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
Experience running a container platform in production (registry, orchestration, infra).
Storage protocols: SAN, NAS, vSAN, iSCSI, NFS, SMB.
Proven track record of infrastructure modernization and mentoring.
Relevant certifications (AZ-104/AZ-305, VCP/VCAP, Terraform Associate, RHCSA/RHCE) considered a plus.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex issues to non-technical audiences.
Occasionally work nights/weekends/holidays and participate in on-call rotations.

Mansioni

Own the architecture, standards, and reference designs for SanMar's Compute platform across Windows Server, Linux, VMware, and Azure.
Design, build, operate Azure infrastructure including landing zones, subscriptions, RBAC, network integration, and cost management.
Codify infrastructure as code with Terraform and configuration management with Ansible; deliver through Azure DevOps pipelines with peer-reviewed changes.
Architect and administer Windows Server and directory services at scale (Active Directory, Entra ID, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, PKI, clustering).
Engineer and operate Linux as a first-class platform (build standards, patching, hardening, performance).
Architect and operate VMware estate (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN) with lifecycle and hardening.
Own the container platform (image supply chain, registry, orchestration).
Lead hybrid cloud direction for Compute (on-prem vs Azure; identity, backup, recovery across both).
Define server/OS/hypervisor lifecycle, patch and firmware strategy, hardware refresh, end-of-support remediation.
Drive observability, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery; conduct regular recovery testing.
Lead complex infrastructure projects end-to-end; post-launch review and improvements.
Lead incident response and postmortems; document and implement platform improvements.
Evaluate and select platform technologies; manage vendor relationships.
Develop architecture docs, runbooks, and knowledge transfer materials; raise team capability.
Mentor Systems Engineers; set technical bar via design and code reviews.
Communicate risk, architecture decisions, and project status to engineering and IT leadership.
Perform other duties and comply with policies.
