Job summary

SanMar is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to own the architecture and modernization of the Compute platform across Windows Server, Linux, VMware, and Azure. You will codify infrastructure with Terraform and Ansible, build pipelines in Azure DevOps, and maintain security/compliance checks.

The role requires mentoring engineers and communicating technical risk to IT leadership. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement in Issaquah, WA with a strong benefits package and a discretionary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical IT experience with a relevant certification.
• 10+ years in enterprise infrastructure design and operations.
• Deep expertise in two or more areas from Windows Server, Linux, VMware, and Azure.
• Experience designing and running infrastructure in Azure with identity and governance.
• Hands-on IaC with Terraform and configuration management with Ansible.
• CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps or similar tools.
• Strong automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
• Production container platform experience and storage protocols exposure.
• Proven mentoring and ability to elevate team capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture, standards, and reference designs for the Compute platform.
• Design, build, and operate Azure infrastructure including landing zones and RBAC.
• Codify infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines with automated checks.
• Architect and administer Windows Server, AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO, PKI, failover clustering.
• Operate Linux as a primary platform, including patching and hardening.
• Manage VMware estate with lifecycle and hardening practices.
• Oversee container platform, image supply chain, and orchestration.
• Lead hybrid cloud strategy for on‑prem and Azure with consistent identity/recovery.
• Drive server and OS lifecycle, patching, firmware, and hardware refresh.
• Ensure observability, monitoring, backups, and disaster recovery.
• Lead complex infra projects end-to-end and document outcomes.
• Handle incident response and postmortems with platform improvements.
• Select platform technologies and manage vendor relationships.
• Develop runbooks and knowledge transfer materials; mentor engineers.
