Job description

Albin Engineering Services, Inc. (www.aesi.com) is looking for a Principal System Architect/Design Engineer for one of our premier clients. This role is remote, but our client prefers someone in the Pacific, Mountain, or Central time zones. As their direct employee, you would qualify for their full benefits package.

This person will define the architecture of network products and systems, lead technology research, interface with customers and lead the design team in the networking product space.

Responsibilities:

1. Define complex networking platform solutions and lead a multi-disciplined team to bring to implementation. Extensive and focused engagement through EVT, phasing out there after. Ensure overall design quality metrics are met.
2. Manage a small supporting team, drive goals and objectives of that team within broader collaborative environment between Technology, Development, and Customer teams.
3. Develop and maintain close technical relationships with suppliers/partners on product roadmaps and technologies.
4. Lead the RFQ technical response.
5. Deliverables include System Requirements Documents (SRD), requirement compliance assessments, and Technical proposals.
6. Act as a primary technical interface between the client and their customers, particularly in technical escalation.
7. Provide technical support to business development teams to assist in the winning of new business.
8. Participate in the selection and hiring of design team resources as required.
9. Identify and Champion process improvement efforts as needed.
10. Participate in standards committees and industry groups as assigned.
11. Prepare and present technical presentations to customers, industry groups, trade shows, etc.
12. Maintain current on industry trends and future technology and market opportunities.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. BS in Electrical Engineering required; MSEE preferred
2. Experience with relevant leading technologies in network products including:
   1. CPU devices including X86, Atom, Xeon, AMD
   2. NPU devices including all Broadcom families (Trident, Tomahawk, Jericho, Ramon), as well as alternative device families such as Cisco and Marvell desired
   3. High speed design including PCB materials, Serdes technology (112G), connector, cable, and parasitic challenges in design
   4. Network performance characteristics and related device optimization features
   5. Power devices including multi-stage and near load delivery
   6. Advanced assembly techniques / challenges affecting design
   7. Optics devices and technology – trade-offs and trends
3. Mechanical design challenges/flexibility as it impacts architecture
4. 15+ years network hardware design experience.
5. 10+ years of network experience at the system level.
6. Successful experience architecting and delivering network products to market.
7. Excellent Customer presentation skills. Interface and interact with large OEM and hyperscale customers on ongoing product related issues and new product design concepts.
8. A broad knowledge of current digital and analogue components.
9. Successful New Product Introduction (NPI) launch.
10. Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to communicate effectively with members of other teams, departments and clients; as a high degree of liaison is needed.
11. Ability to travel internationally (approx. 4-6 trips per year)
12. Domestic travel to support customer and internal meetings

Preferred Experience:

1. Experience working with Asian based design teams
2. 5+ years experience as a direct line functional manager
3. Prior participation in industry groups and associations
4. System level integration, interoperability and test experience
5. System level manufacturing test experience
