Job summary

Crescent Solutions is seeking a Principal Substation Engineer to provide senior technical leadership for high-voltage, utility-scale substation projects from development through commissioning and operation.

The successful candidate will oversee Engineers of Record and consultants, coordinate with transmission owners, utilities, OEMs, and project teams, and ensure designs meet IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and utility standards while managing risk and interfaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Structural Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• 7+ years of substation engineering/design experience with HV projects.
• P.E. and/or PMP certification is a plus.
• Experience overseeing Engineers of Record, engineering consultants, OEMs, and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for high-voltage substation projects from development through construction and commissioning.
• Define engineering requirements, project scope, site requirements, and technical deliverables.
• Oversee Engineers of Record and engineering consultants, ensuring designs meet project requirements and applicable IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and utility standards.
• Review engineering designs, specifications, studies, and technical documentation.
• Support generation interconnection activities, including system impact studies, facility studies, reactive/harmonic studies, and interconnection agreements.
• Coordinate with transmission owners, utilities, operators, and ISOs/RTOs to resolve technical and interconnection requirements.
• Develop and review scopes of work and support selection of engineering, surveying, geotechnical, construction, and equipment suppliers.
• Provide technical input for project estimates, schedules, equipment requirements, and risk mitigation.
• Support procurement and management of long-lead substation equipment and major materials.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities and establish project priorities, responsibilities, and technical interfaces.
• Identify and communicate project risks, technical issues, and recommended solutions to project and executive leadership.
• Support construction and commissioning activities and ensure engineering deliverables align with operational requirements.
• Work with OEMs to evaluate equipment designs and ensure alignment with project and engineering standards.

We are seeking an experienced Principal Substation Engineer to provide senior-level engineering leadership and technical oversight for high-voltage, utility-scale substation projects. This position will support projects from early-stage development through engineering, construction, commissioning, and operation.

The ideal candidate brings deep substation engineering experience along with the ability to lead technical efforts, oversee external engineering partners, and collaborate with transmission owners, utilities, OEMs, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Strong knowledge of substation design, generation interconnection, transmission systems, and applicable industry standards.
• Experience providing technical oversight to EORs, engineering consultants, OEMs, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience supporting projects through development, engineering, construction, and commissioning.
• Strong project engineering, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to communicate technical issues and project risks effectively to both engineering and leadership teams.
• P.E. and/or PMP certification is a plus.
• Utility, renewable energy, or power transmission experience strongly preferred.
