Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) in Tampa, FL seeks a Principal to lead repair and rehabilitation engineering, drive business development, and serve as a senior client-facing technical leader. You will oversee investigations, repair strategies, and project delivery across complex structures.

The ideal candidate has 15+ years in existing structures and forensic engineering, PE license, and proven ability to grow client relationships and revenue. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Master of Science, Master of Engineering, or Doctorate in Structural Engineering or related field required.
• 15+ years of professional structural engineering experience with focus on existing structures, repair, rehabilitation, and forensic engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
• Demonstrated technical leadership in complex structural investigation, repair, retrofit, or adaptive reuse projects.
• Proven ability to develop and sustain strong client relationships and generate revenue.
• Business development success in a seller-doer capacity.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead investigations of existing structures with deterioration or performance deficiencies.
• Direct repair, strengthening, retrofit, and rehabilitation solution development.
• Serve as technical lead for evaluation and recommendations for new use or code compliance.
• Manage multiple projects with scope, schedule, budget, and client communication.
• Act as primary client contact for repair and rehabilitation projects and grow relationships.
• Prepare proposals with scope, budgeting, staffing, and approach.
• Oversee technical deliverables including reports, calculations, drawings, specs, and presentations.
• Support forensic investigations related to structural damage and failures.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to practice growth via BD and client engagement.
• Present complex topics to clients and collaborate across SGH disciplines.
