Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) seeks a Principal in Structural Engineering to lead complex building projects across steel, concrete, masonry, and timber. You will guide design, investigations, and repairs while mentoring staff and expanding client relationships in Texas and beyond.

Applicants should have a Master’s in Civil/Structural Engineering, a Texas P.E., and 15+ years of experience with strong communication and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E., structural branch) in Texas.
• 15+ years of experience in structural engineering, including investigations, design, repair and rehab, and construction-phase consulting.
• Experience with existing buildings, structural distress evaluation, and retrofit solutions.
• Experience with steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures.
• Experience providing litigation support is a plus.
• Strong track record of technical leadership and client relationship development.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ethical standards are paramount.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership in design, investigation, and assessment of structures across a broad range of sectors.
• Apply structural engineering expertise to projects involving wind, moisture, foundation movement, and other risks.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and building enclosure specialists.
• Manage and deliver projects from concept through completion including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.
• Cultivate client relationships and drive growth in Texas and beyond.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to SGH thought leadership and public speaking.
