Job Description

Hazen is seeking candidates for a Principal Structural Engineer for full-time employment in our Buffalo, NY or Saratoga Springs, NY locations. Candidates must have 5 to 15 years of relevant structural design experience.

The position will involve a wide range of projects including planning, design, permitting, and construction of structures in the water sector (e.g., drinking water, wastewater, water resources, conveyance, canals, and ports). Opportunities for client development, project management, technical leadership, and staff mentoring will be available across Hazen’s Northeast and Midwest regions. The primary focus will be projects in Upstate NY and PA. Fieldwork and site visits from planning through construction may be required, with occasional travel.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5-15 years of structural design experience. Must have a Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within 6 months in the State of New York.
• Experience in analysis, design, and construction of environmental structures such as industrial buildings, pump stations, process basins, and treatment facilities. Leadership in structural design and construction administration for major projects involving upgrades to wastewater, drinking water, and reclaimed water treatment plants.
• Proficiency in designing and constructing structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and aluminum structures, with knowledge of applicable codes (ACI, AISC, ASCE) and structural analysis software.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work successfully in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Key role in significant infrastructure projects in the greater Buffalo area.

Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (with a Structural focus) or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
