Job summary

Fetch is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to own the multi-year technical direction for the Consumer Experience domain. You will set architecture, raise the bar for senior engineers, and mentor staff while collaborating with product, data, and executive leadership.

You will lead cross-team initiatives, shape foundational patterns for personalization, experiments, and engagement infrastructure, and drive velocity without compromising product quality at scale across millions of users.

Qualifications

• 15+ years building and scaling consumer-facing products.
• Experience setting multi-year technical direction for a consumer domain spanning multiple teams.
• Deep experience building product experiences that move engagement, activation, retention, conversion, or monetization.
• Experience in consumer growth areas such as search, recommendations, personalization, notifications, onboarding, or lifecycle experiences.
• Ability to frame ambiguous problems and shape roadmap with Product, Data, and executive leadership.
• Influence across teams and orgs without direct authority.
• Experience building high-scale consumer web or mobile apps.
• Strong product and user experience instincts for experimentation, usability, performance, and long-term quality.
• Strong engineering fundamentals to build reliable, scalable, maintainable systems.
• Ability to operate across the stack when needed.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical vision for Consumer Experience and define multi-year strategy.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data and executives to surface high-leverage opportunities and shape roadmaps.
• Establish architectural patterns and standards for personalization, experimentation, and engagement infrastructure.
• Drive experimentation and product iteration at scale, balancing velocity with long-term quality.
• Design systems that measurably influence engagement, activation, conversion, retention, and monetization.
• Influence technical direction across teams and resolve cross-org architectural questions.
• Mentor and grow senior engineers and multiply impact through people.
• Accelerate developer and product velocity through tooling, workflows, and internal capabilities.
• Model Technical Excellence through thoughtful architecture and ownership culture.
