Job summary

Extreme Networks, Inc. in Seattle/San Jose seeks a Principal Software Engineer to drive core platforms and services that process massive network data and power AI experiences. You will help build scalable, secure, real-time systems and lead architectural decisions for enterprise-grade solutions.

The role requires 8+ years in software development, strong leadership, and hands-on coding in Python/Java/C++. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of SW Systems Engineering.

Qualifications

• 8+ years across the complete software development lifecycle including architecture, design, coding, reviews, testing, build, deployment and production operations.
• 8+ years programming experience in Python, Java, Go, or C++.
• 5+ years leading design/architecture of large-scale distributed systems on cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Experience in real-time microservices, stream processing, distributed data platforms, cloud infrastructure, AI or agentic systems.
• Experience designing scalable, high-availability systems for high data velocity.
• Master's or PhD in CS/CS Engineering/ML or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of core platforms and services processing large volumes of network and operational data.
• Power AI experiences across Extreme's products with scalable, secure, observable systems.
• Shape architecture for real-time analytics, distributed processing, and intelligent automation.
• Experiment with emerging technologies and launch state-of-the-art software and AI solutions.
• Mentor engineers and act as a technical lead across teams.
