Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Principal Software Engineer Lead to architect complex distributed systems and drive reliability using Site Reliability Engineering practices. You will set standards, mentor teams, and lead postmortems for critical incidents.

In this role, you will own architectural blueprints, evaluate new technologies, and oversee secure production releases while guiding engineers to excel in a collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree.
• Experience developing full-stack web applications, APIs, and microservices in Linux/Unix environments.
• Proficiency in languages such as Python, JavaScript, SQL, Ruby, or PHP.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerization, automated testing, and revision control workflows.
• Solid grounding in SRE principles, including SLI/SLO tracking, toil reduction, and root-cause analysis.
• Experience creating architectural blueprints, evaluating emerging technologies, and mentoring peers.

Responsibilities

• Architecting complex distributed software systems and drafting technical blueprints.
• Establishing development standards, PR review frameworks, and SLOs for resilience.
• Designing deployment safety pipelines, CI workflows, and automated tests for releases.
• Serving as Tier-3 escalation authority for complex failures and leading postmortems.
• Mentoring teams on system design and fostering an inclusive technical culture.
