Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineer - Network to design, build, and operate scalable network infrastructure that underpins Akamai Connected Cloud.

You will guide reliability practices, mentor engineers, and drive architectures for high availability and performance across global services. You will develop automation tools, define robust deployment standards, and partner with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 12 years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or its equivalent experience.
• Experience in a Site or Network Reliability Engineering, Network Engineering, Software Engineering, or DevOps role working with large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, load balancing and firewall concepts.
• Advanced proficiency with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Salt Stack, Chef, Puppet, or similar.
• Experience with Linux networking at the userspace level and open source networking software such as FRR, Bird, or goBGP.
• Experience developing applications, contributing to codebases, conducting code reviews, and writing scripts using Python, Bash, Go, or Rust.
• Experience with continuous integration / continuous deployment tools such as Jenkins, Github Actions, ArgoCD, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Architecting, building and supporting solutions that foster efficient and streamlined processes.
• Mentor team members, drive code quality standards and provide architectural leadership.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on deployments and keep documentation up to date.
• Build, test, design automation tools (Bash, Python, Slack bots) and work with network developers.
• Define SLOs for network infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance.
• Collaborate with support, operations and engineering teams to troubleshoot complex network problems, including on-call rotations.
