Job summary

Caterpillar in Irving, TX seeks a Principal Software Engineer to define and lead the system design for annotation and dataset quality for autonomous construction. You will shape end-to-end data pipelines transforming sensor data into high-quality labeled datasets for ML models.

This hands-on role requires Python/Java expertise, data-centric AI know-how, and the ability to drive quality, governance, and collaboration across Product, Data Engineering, and Platform teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years software engineering with leadership roles.
• Experience designing annotation platforms and data quality systems.
• Strong background in Python and/or Java, cloud services, and ML workflows.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead end-to-end system design for annotation and dataset quality.
• Drive data quality frameworks, validation, and production readiness for ML data.
• Provide technical direction to multiple agile teams and stakeholders.
• Hands-on coding in Python/Java and performance tuning of critical components.
