Job summary

Caterpillar in Irving, TX seeks a Principal Architect for AI Factory to define data architecture enabling Physical AI and autonomous systems at scale. This role establishes data domains, canonical models, data products, and standards to transform jobsite and sensor data into reusable AI assets.

You will lead data platforms, ML workflows, and collaboration with engineering to deliver scalable data solutions for AI factories, accelerating innovation.

Qualifications

• 8+ years architecting distributed AI infrastructure on-premises and in the cloud.
• Deep Kubernetes for GPU workloads (operators, multi-tenant queues, quotas) plus Slurm, Run:ai / NVIDIA Mission Control, or Ray.
• Distributed Training and Performance with PyTorch FSDP / TensorRT/ DeepSpeed / Megatron, NCCL, profiling, elastic training.
• Data Flywheel for Physical AI: large-scale multimodal sensor data ingestion, lakehouse storage, versioning, labeling.
• MLOps & Model Lifecycle: training, fine-tuning, registry, deployment, monitoring, governance with MLflow, Kubeflow.
• Simulation-in-the-Loop and RL Infra: synthetic data pipelines and large-scale evaluation.
• NVIDIA Ecosystem and Edge Deployment: DGX, CUDA, Jetson, edge inference pipelines.
• Observability, Reliability, and Security: DCGM, Prometheus, SRE practices, FinOps, governance.
• Software Engineering: Python and C++, containers, CI/CD, cloud
• Architecture Leadership: translate architecture into implementation plans and standards across teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed architecture deliverables to solve business problems.
• Design application infrastructure, databases, languages, and testing approaches.
• Lead evaluation and deployment of new technologies to enhance digital capabilities.
