Job summary

Salesforce is seeking a Principal Engineer for Salesforce AI Labs to lead the architecture of agent and backend systems. You will own critical capabilities from design through operation, mentoring engineers and shaping the technical roadmap for AI-driven workflows.

You’ll work directly with customers to prototype solutions, ensure reliable AI reasoning with deterministic paths, and drive scalable, secure architecture across the platform.

Qualifications

• Led the architecture and delivery of complex backend systems with production impact across multiple components.
• Hands-on experience shipping and operating LLM-powered systems and understanding production failures.
• Proficient in Python, Go, Java, or JavaScript/TypeScript.

Responsibilities

• Drive Agent Development & Architecture Design and build systems that learn from demonstrations and combine AI reasoning with deterministic execution to complete workflows reliably.
• Develop recovery and verification capabilities so agents can adapt to changes, confirm outcomes, and recognize when human intervention is needed.
• Build backend services with robust workflow state management, failure handling, and secure access to customer environments.
• Create evaluations and diagnostics that measure task success, expose regressions, and make failures understandable.
• Build Directly With Customers: prototype solutions, validate results in customers’ environments, and drive improvements to the core product.
