Job summary

Salesforce AI Labs is seeking a Principal Engineer to drive architecture for generative AI agent systems and backend workflows. You will stay hands-on while guiding design decisions that enable reliable, scalable automation across enterprise environments.

You will work directly with customers to prototype solutions, evaluate model choices, and mentor junior engineers, ensuring secure, high-quality implementations that scale across teams.

Qualifications

• Led architecture and delivery of complex backend systems across components.
• Hands-on experience shipping and operating LLM-powered systems.
• Strong ability to reason concurrency, state, retries and partial failures.
• Able to turn unclear customer problems into bounded technical approaches.

Responsibilities

• Design and build systems that learn from demonstrations and combine AI reasoning with deterministic execution to complete workflows reliably.
• Develop recovery and verification capabilities so agents can adapt to changes, confirm outcomes, and recognize when human intervention is needed.
• Build backend services with robust workflow state management, failure handling, and secure access to customer environments.
• Create evaluations and diagnostics that measure task success, expose regressions, and make failures understandable.
• Work alongside customers to prototype solutions and validate results in their environments.
• Lead architectural decisions across agent execution, backend services, and workflow state, aligning system boundaries and tradeoffs with other technical leads.
• Mentor engineers and participate in hiring to raise the engineering bar.
