Job summary

Avandra Imaging is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead architecture and deliver scalable, secure systems across the stack.

You will mentor engineers, set coding standards, collaborate with product and regulatory teams, and drive technical strategy in a healthcare data platform.

This role requires hands-on coding, influence without authority, and a passion for building high-trust teams.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of engineering experience across multiple tech stacks.
• Proven ability to operate as a technical leader—set direction, influence others, deliver results without formal authority.
• Strong foundation in software engineering best practices, including CI/CD, observability, automated testing, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience with cloud-native systems (preferably AWS), including containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Solid knowledge of relational and non-relational databases.
• Demonstrated success in a highly regulated environment, preferably healthcare, with understanding of compliance and data protection (HIPAA).
• Excellent communicator and cross-functional collaborator, comfortable representing engineering in executive conversations and product strategy.
• Passion for teaching, mentoring, and cultivating a high-trust, high-autonomy team environment.

Responsibilities

• Architect and lead the development of critical systems, services, and infrastructure — focusing on reliability, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Partner with product and program leaders to align engineering solutions with user needs, regulatory requirements, and business outcomes.
• Set and evolve technical standards across the organization. Address tech debt, guide code review quality, and drive initiatives improving team velocity and code quality.
• Coach and mentor engineers across teams, helping them grow their craft and navigate ambiguity.
• Investigate and evaluate new technologies to drive innovation, simplify complexity, and support scale.
• Contribute directly to codebases, especially for architectural foundations, prototypes, and high-risk areas.
• Serve as a multiplier, identifying gaps, promoting collaboration, and unblocking teams without taking over.
• Uphold and strengthen engineering culture with curiosity, learning, integrity, and positive team dynamics.
• Help recruit and onboard exceptional talent, contributing to a team that reflects our values and mission.

About the Job

As a Principal Software Engineer at Avandra Imaging, you’ll serve as a hands-on technical leader, collaborating across Engineering, Product, and other areas of the business to shape and deliver systems that are secure, scalable, and high-impact. You’ll be trusted to drive architectural direction, mentor other engineers, and set quality standards across the stack.
