Job summary

1X is seeking a Principal Tools Engineer, Simulation in San Carlos, CA to lead the development of scalable simulation tooling for robotics. You will enhance the simulator, streamline developer workflows, and strengthen content pipelines to accelerate iteration and validation on real robots.

You will drive cross-disciplinary collaboration, deliver performance-focused tooling, and shape the CI/CD and testing frameworks that ensure reliability across large-scale simulation environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Game Development, or a related technical field.
• Strong proficiency in C++, C#, Python, or similar programming languages.
• Experience developing tools within Unreal Engine, Unity, proprietary game engines, or large-scale simulation environments.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, or deployment systems for engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build the next generation of simulation tooling that powers robotics development at 1X.
• Improve the simulator, developer workflows, and content pipelines for rapid environment creation and asset management.
• Integrate simulators into automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines for continuous validation.
• Build internal tools to improve developer productivity and engineering velocity.
• Establish scalable platform architecture and best practices for long-term growth of the simulation ecosystem.
