Job summary

Genentech in South San Francisco, CA, seeks a Principal Scientist in Structural Biology to lead drug-discovery projects by uncovering structural and dynamic mechanisms of therapeutic targets. You will integrate structural data with computational models and biophysical insights to enable lead identification and optimization.

You will oversee construct design and purification, high-resolution structure determination, and analysis of protein complexes with small molecules or biologics.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Biophysics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant post-doctoral experience in industry, academia or a research organization.
• Expert in molecular modeling techniques such as molecular dynamics simulation, structural ensemble modeling, ensemble docking and related techniques.
• Expertise in biomolecular structure determination via cryoEM or X-ray crystallography.
• Proven track record leveraging insights into protein or protein-ligand dynamics to enable drug discovery.
• Collaborative leader who guides teams based on merit and mutual respect.
• Highly organized with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural biology strategy and execution within multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams.
• Oversee protein construct design, expression, purification and high-resolution structure determination (cryoEM and/or X-ray).
• Solve and analyze structures of target protein complexes bound by small molecules, peptides, antibodies, or other formats.
• Use computational and experimental data to characterize dynamics of macromolecules.
• Translate dynamics insights into strategies for target assessment, hit finding, lead optimization, and other drug-discovery steps.
• Mentor colleagues in applying computational tools and dynamics methods; develop workflows and training materials.
