Job summary

Sarmal, Inc. in San Diego seeks a Principal Scientist to serve as the principal technical architect of our platform.

You will define capture design, readout integration, and cross‑workstream roadmap across cardiac, sepsis, and epigenomics applications, and lead proof‑of‑concept experiments to validate and de‑risk key capabilities. You will own the platform architecture, drive multi‑layer selectivity, and transfer validated concepts to product teams for scale‑up.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Bioengineering, Analytical Chemistry, or related field.
• 8+ years combined post‑doctoral and industry experience developing electrochemical sensing or biosensing platforms.
• Experience translating molecular concepts from bench to validated assay or diagnostic platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and interpret proof-of-concept experiments to establish feasibility and de-risk each application.
• Package validated POC assays — protocols, data, and rationale — for transfer to product teams.
• Define platform architecture spanning surface chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology.
• Mentor staff and senior scientists; lead cross‑functional, multi‑discipline teams.
• Lead SBIR/STTR grant efforts and contribute to IP strategy and publications.
