Job summary

Sarmal, Inc. is a San Diego–based biotechnology company seeking a Senior Research Associate to drive systems integration for our molecular diagnostics platform. You will bridge molecular biology and engineering to transition bench processes onto an automated instrument platform and consumables.

You will lead integration testing, design studies for consumables, and troubleshoot flow cell and fluidic systems while collaborating with assay development, chemistry, and device engineering teams.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or related field with 5+ years industry experience
• Experience with early prototype systems and iterative design cycles
• Hands-on experience with consumable characterization and root-cause analysis
• Experience with fluorescence imaging/spectroscopy instrumentation
• Experience with fluidic/flow cell based systems and GMP/ISO 13485 environments
• Molecular biology techniques relevant to nucleic acid diagnostics

Responsibilities

• Build, characterize, and iterate on early prototype instrument and consumable systems with cross-functional teams
• Lead integration testing, risk analysis, and troubleshooting across development cycles
• Design studies to characterize consumable performance across lots and iterations
• Support fluidic and flow cell based system troubleshooting and design improvements
• Operate fluorescence-based detection systems and evaluate performance metrics
• Translate bench-scale processes into integrated, system-compatible workflows
• Define and execute integration testing protocols spanning fluids, electronics, and chemistry
• Maintain documentation suitable for DHF/design control and regulatory submissions
• Collaborate with quality/regulatory to align with GMP/FDA design controls
• Contribute to design-for-manufacturability and –reliability discussions
