Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Safety & Environmental Engineer in Elk River, MN. The role focuses on safety program development, hazard identification and cross-functional collaboration within an EHS team at a defense facilities site.

The position requires a STEM degree with significant related experience and the ability to obtain a Secret government clearance. Travel up to 15% may be required for explosives analysis and training at other NG facilities.

• Candidate must be able to prepare and deliver briefings of technical information, with clarity, to cross functional groups.

Responsibilities

• Develop safety management systems and programs to reduce risk and maintain compliance with industry standards.
• Develop rapport with employees to facilitate hazard communication and near-miss reporting.
• Support Safety Committee and Safety Walks to drive engagement and improvements.
• Assign, prioritize and track safety actions to ensure completion.
• Develop and deliver effective safety training, in person and computer-based modules.
• Perform safety reviews of equipment to ensure proper controls and practices.
• Develop safe chemical handling and storage practices for solvents and related materials.
• Assist in injury response and ensure appropriate process follow-through.
• Lead cross-functional incident reviews to uncover system weaknesses and prevent recurrence.
• Conduct ergonomic reviews of offices, labs, and assembly areas.
• Build knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management and DoD safety standards relevant to explosives.
• Collaborate with Engineering to develop safe operating procedures for hazardous operations.
• Assist environmental engineer with compliance monitoring and waste inspections.
• Obtain hazardous waste, spill response and DOT training to serve as backup.
