Job summary

Tampa Electric Company is seeking a Sr or Principal Engineer, RTU Technical, at the Bearss Operations Center in Florida. This role focuses on designing and commissioning RTU/SCADA systems for EMS input, ensuring a safe, reliable, high-quality protection and control system.

The position requires strong RTU configuration skills, SCADA knowledge, and the ability to supervise IBEW Electricians. Travel to field locations may be required; a PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
• Engineering Technology degree from ABET-accredited program is accepted.
• Master of Science in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
• Florida Professional Engineer license is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of SCADA, RTU configuration and grid communications.

Responsibilities

• Supports EMS/ADMS/grid modelers in commissioning RTUs and troubleshooting to improve reliability and designs.
• Provide engineering support during checkout and interpret designs to improve future projects.
• Consult with multiple departments to establish RTU requirements and operating philosophy.
• Provide guidance, training and consultation as RTU engineering specialist to design engineers and operations staff.
• Advise on TEC system requirements for RTUs and Grid Automation aligned with policies.
• Maintain frequent contact with utility professionals and participate in relevant organizations; stay current on communications protocols.
• Provide supervision to the IBEW team of Energy System Electricians.
