Job summary

Berkshire Grey, Inc. is seeking a Principal Software Engineer focused on robotic manipulation for the Scoop program.

You will drive architecture, craft high-performance software, and enable robots to interact with real-world environments across complex tasks. You will lead efforts in motion planning, multi-arm coordination, kinematics, and environment representation, while mentoring engineers and coordinating with hardware, controls, and perception teams to deliver production-ready manipulation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, or closely related field with 10+ years of software development in production environments; or a master’s with 8+ years.
• Expert-level Python development and strong C++ programming.
• Experience with RESTful interfaces, gRPC, and distributed systems.
• Proven ability to design, implement, and deploy production robotics software for manipulation, motion planning, and kinematics.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to software architecture and long-term roadmap for robotic manipulation in production.
• Develop, deploy, and support advanced robotic manipulation software.
• Lead design reviews and cross-team collaboration with hardware, controls, and perception engineers.
• Advance simulation, tests, and hardware-in-the-loop workflows for safe, robust performance.
• Mentor engineers and communicate strategy, progress, and tradeoffs to leadership.
