Job summary

Avalara, Inc. seeks a Principal Product Manager, E-commerce to own the product-led growth motion for online sellers. You’ll define the vision, roadmap, and experience that helps stores connect, understand tax exposure, and see value quickly across platforms.

Based ideally in Seattle, WA, or remotely from anywhere in the U.S., you’ll partner with engineering, design, and growth to optimize activation, monetization, and retention in Avalara’s ecommerce portfolio.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of product management experience, with 2+ years in growth, monetization, or self-serve product roles.
• Proven ability to improve product-led growth metrics (activation, conversion, retention, expansion).
• Experience with freemium, free-trial, or self-serve monetization models, including pricing experiments.
• Experience building on or integrating with e-commerce platforms, marketplaces, or app ecosystems.
• Strong analytics skills: funnel, cohort analysis, A/B tests, and product analytics interpretation.
• Technical fluency with APIs and integrations; excellent written and verbal communication.
• Bonus: experience in compliance-heavy domains or SMB/app growth via app stores.

Responsibilities

• Define vision, strategy, and roadmap for online sellers across the growth funnel.
• Shape user experience from initial visit to first meaningful activation.
• Own app listings, integrations, and in-platform connection flows for activated accounts.
• Drive revenue by presenting pricing, packaging, upgrades, and expansion opportunities.
• Build a rapid experimentation engine to test onboarding, paywalls, pricing, and messaging.
• Collaborate daily with engineering, design, and growth to align self-serve experiences.
• Leverage AI to personalize onboarding and simplify setup for non-experts.
