Job summary

PermitFlow is hiring a Principal Engineer in New York City for hybrid work. You will own the evolution of our architecture and platform to support agents and human users, shaping the monorepo, and guiding migrations across infrastructure, services, and product code.

The ideal candidate has deep platform engineering experience, a track record of architecting large codebases, and a hands-on approach to scaling with AI-enabled tooling.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of software engineering experience and technical leadership across multiple teams.
• Led architecture for large, multi-team codebases with domain boundaries and patterns.
• Experience with agent-first development and monorepo tooling to support product engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of the codebase across the monorepo and lead refactors.
• Design the monorepo for agents with clear context and boundaries.
• Build platform substrate including shared services, data access, and observability.
• Define agentic SDLC and set default practices for rapid production readiness.
• Scale AI-assisted verification, code review, and CI gates to handle growing PR volume.
• Put agents to work by automating ticket triage, test runs, and migrations.
