Job summary

Symbotic is seeking a principal robotics engineer to join our Mobile Robotics Software team. You will own design, development and testing of control algorithms for mobile robot navigation and manipulation, delivering robust software within a cross-functional group of roboticists and software engineers.

You will contribute expertise in sensor fusion, autonomous navigation and real-time systems, collaborating with product teams to plan, design, and implement new features while ensuring quality,

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in CS/CE/Robotics/Aerospace or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in mobile robot algorithms (localization, manipulation, navigation).
• Experience delivering robotics software in real-world deployments.
• Proficiency in C++ embedded coding for real-time environments.
• Experience with RTOS and threading/communication in real-time systems.
• Familiarity with software processes and version control tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own design, development and testing of control algorithms for mobile robot’s case handling tasks – navigation and manipulation.
• Owns delivery of robotic control software in a diverse team of roboticists and software engineers.
• Subject matter expert sensor fusion estimation techniques and control algorithms for autonomous navigation and manipulation.
• Collaborates with cross-functional engineering and product teams on planning, design, and development of new and existing features.
• Owns quality, reliability and testability of the software codebase.
• Troubleshoot system problems in production or design by investigating issues related to product performance or production difficulties.
• Identify risks and provide solutions that lead to successful customer deliveries and improvements in system performance.
• Up to 10% of travel may be required
