Job summary

AEP Service Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Principal to support gas, coal, and renewable plant retrofit and new-generation projects. You will define mechanical design-basis expectations, coordinate with AE and EPC partners, and oversee procurement of rotating and static equipment, piping, and structures.

Responsibilities include development of design basis, technical specs, RFx deliverables, and lifecycle support for outages and commissioning.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of related engineering experience with a ABET-accredited degree.
• PE license preferred; organiational approval/waiver may apply.
• Experience in mechanical engineering for power generation (gas, coal, renewables).
• Familiarity with codes: ASME, API, ANSI, NFPA, IEEE.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design basis for plant equipment (turbines, HRSGs, boilers, pumps, piping).
• Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings and calculations with AE/EPC teams.
• Prepare procurement specs and RFx documents for self-build proposals.
• Interface with OEMs during RFx and procurement to confirm technical compliance and submittals.
• Provide construction, commissioning and startup support (site inspections, punch lists).
• Perform analyses (stress, vibration, thermal, piping flexibility) to validate designs.
• Ensure compliance with codes and safety requirements; develop O&M docs and lifecycle cost data.
