Job summary

Johnson Controls in New Freedom, PA is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to shape the future of our water-cooled chillers. You will drive the full product development lifecycle, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

The role requires applying UL/CE/ASME codes, leading test programs, and guiding design and manufacturing to balance cost, performance, and reliability. A relocation package is available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role.
• Strong understanding of fluid and thermal principles.
• Proficient at organizing and processing large amounts of data.
• Experience with product development, project management and sustaining configurable systems.
• Ability to mentor and train other engineers.
• Datacenter industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain understanding of theories, concepts, technical principles, and processes related to fluid, thermal, and other mechanical aspects of water-cooled chillers.
• Contribute to and lead on-time completion of programs and regularly report on the status of projects.
• Expert in mechanical design and able to conceptualize and implement design ideas into the product.
• Applies mechanical codes such as UL, CE, PED, GB and ASME.
• Work closely with the design and manufacturing teams to balance cost, performance, and reliability.
• Lead and help execute test programs to validate performance and reliability of mechanical systems and components.
• Analyze, design, modify, troubleshoot mechanical sub-components and sub-systems based on test data.
• Generate and review technical documentation for use within the product team.

What You Will Do

Johnson Controls is seeking an innovative and experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to help shape the future of our industry-leading products! In this role, you will drive the full product development lifecycle, leading and contributing to product design, testing, performance analysis, and project execution. As a technical leader, you'll collaborate across cross-functional teams to bring new ideas to life, solve complex engineering challenges, and deliver high-quality solutions that make a real impact for our customers.

Beyond product development, you will play a key role in supporting manufacturing operations by identifying opportunities for improvement and leading the implementation of design enhancements. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as you will regularly present technical concepts and recommendations to engineering teams, leadership, project stakeholders, designers, and manufacturing partners.

This position also offers the opportunity to guide and mentor junior engineers, helping to develop the next generation of engineering talent while influencing engineering best practices across the organization.

This is a hybrid role based in New Freedom, PA, requiring onsite collaboration at least three days per week. Candidates should reside within commuting distance of the office or be willing to relocate. Various relocation packages are available.

How You Will Do It

• Generate and review technical documentation for use within the product team

HIRING SALARY RANGE

$115,000 - $130,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
