Job summary

Johnson Controls seeks an innovative Principal Mechanical Engineer to drive the full product development lifecycle, lead design and testing, and collaborate across engineering, manufacturing and leadership to deliver high‑quality, reliable water-cooled chillers.

You will mentor junior engineers, guide design optimization, and apply UL/CE/PED/GB/ASME codes while shaping engineering best practices across the organization. This onsite role offers a competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
• 7+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role.
• Strong understanding of fluid and thermal principles.
• Proficient with organizing and processing large amounts of data.
• Experience with product development, project management, and sustaining configurable systems.
• Ability to mentor and train other engineers.
• Preferred Datacenter industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain understanding of theories, concepts, technical principles related to fluid, thermal, and other mechanical aspects of water-cooled chillers.
• Contribute to and lead on-time completion of programs and report status of projects.
• Expert in mechanical design and able to conceptualize and implement design ideas into the product.
• Apply mechanical codes such as UL, CE, PED, GB and ASME.
• Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to balance cost, performance, and reliability.
• Lead and help execute test programs to validate performance and reliability.
• Analyze, design, modify and troubleshoot mechanical sub-components and subsystems based on test data.
• Generate and review technical documentation for use within the product team.

Johnson Controls is seeking an innovative and experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to help shape the future of our industry‑leading products! In this role, you will drive the full product development lifecycle, leading and contributing to product design, testing, performance analysis, and project execution. As a technical leader, you’ll collaborate across cross‑functional teams to bring new ideas to life, solve complex engineering challenges, and deliver high‑quality solutions that make a real impact for our customers. Beyond product development, you will play a key role in supporting manufacturing operations by identifying opportunities for improvement and leading the implementation of design enhancements. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as you will regularly present technical concepts and recommendations to engineering teams, leadership, project stakeholders, designers, and manufacturing partners. This position also offers the opportunity to guide and mentor junior engineers, helping to develop the next generation of engineering talent while influencing engineering best practices across the organization.

How you will do it

• Analyzes, designs, modifies and/or troubleshoots mechanical sub‑components and sub‑systems based on test data
• Generate and review technical documentation for use within the product team

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $115,000 - $130,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
