Job summary

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA) is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer – CDU to lead mechanical design of coolant distribution units for U.S. deployment.

The role is hybrid, based in Plano, TX, and requires deep experience in data center cooling systems and supplier-facing leadership. You will drive design-for-manufacturing, coordinate with customers and suppliers, and ensure robust architectures from concept through mass production.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 12+ years total experience with 7+ years in mechanical design and supplier-facing leadership for industrial equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings (P&IDs, GA).
• Experience collaborating across design, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and service teams.
• Strong negotiation and cross‑cultural communication skills with global stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical authority for CDU mechanical system design (pumps, exchangers, piping, valves, skid/enclosure).
• Lead product design activities from concept to mass production with manufacturing and service considerations.
• Engage customers and suppliers to align requirements and design inputs (VOC).
• Evaluate supplier capabilities, ensure quality and scalability, and drive cost-down initiatives.
• Support service offerings, install/maintainability documentation, and lifecycle considerations.
