Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr Principal Mechanical Engineer with expertise in aircraft structural design and analysis. The role involves supporting MRB and ASIP processes, validating repairs, and ensuring compliance with MIL-HBK-516 and FAA standards.

The candidate should be a US citizen eligible for a secret clearance. Open at Level 3 or Level 4, with a background in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 5+ years (Level 3) or 8+ years (Level 4) of related experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or related STEM field with required experience (Level 3/4).
• Level 3 requires 5 years experience or 3 with Master’s or 1 with PhD.
• Level 4 requires 8 years with Bachelor’s or 6 with Master’s or 4 with PhD.
• Experience with classical static strength hand analysis; substantiation of aircraft structural repairs; structure and mechanical systems repairs.

Responsibilities

• Provide liaison support and develop detailed structural analyses for MRB, ASIP and fleet management.
• Write analyses for drawing release or aircraft repairs, including FBDs and loading and stress calculations.
• Guide liaison engineers in design and substantiation of structural modifications and/or repairs.
• Communicate effectively under pressure and work with offsite locations as needed.
