Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal or Sr Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 3 or 4) based at Edwards AFB, CA, with periodic Palmdale site coverage. The role focuses on testing, with additional design, analysis, manufacture, and verification tasks for aircraft Support Equipment.

The position requires flexible shifts and occasional travel, plus a Secret clearance and CAD expertise for manufacturing drawings.

Qualifications

Bachelor's in STEM with 5+ years of relevant engineering experience or Master's with 3+ years.
Experience using CAD software to generate detailed manufacturing drawings.
Active US Government Secret clearance (or in Continuous Evaluation).
Ability to obtain SAP clearance when required.

Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, and conduct test operations for Support Equipment on/off aircraft.
Align test targets with flight test org, NGAS test team, and customer reps.
Provide engineering assessments and test results for equipment management.
Design test, measurement, and handling equipment for military aircraft.
Gather data, develop requirements, interface with suppliers, and perform basic stress/tolerance analysis.
Liaise with manufacturing to ensure quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
Develop test plans and perform environmental testing of Support Equipment.
Utilize CAD tools (NX/Pro/E/CATIA) for detailed drawings.
