Job summary

STEM Boomerang in Albuquerque seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineering Lead to guide the design, build, and integration of an electron accelerator system. You will manage a small engineering team and coordinate RF, vacuum, cooling subsystems to meet program milestones.

You bring 12+ years in particle accelerators or related vacuum devices, with strong CAD, fabrication knowledge, and a track record of large-system integration. Competitive benefits and equity offered for a mission-driven lab.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and 12 years’ experience in particle accelerators or related devices.
• Proven track record with large systems integration.
• Ability to lead a small to mid-size technical team.
• Experience writing specs and reviewing drawings with vendors.
• Deep knowledge of accelerating structures, brazing, machining, vacuum and cooling systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design, build, and integration of accelerator system.
• Manage day-to-day mechanical engineering activities and scheduling.
• Oversee integration of RF, beam, vacuum, cooling subsystems.
• Coordinate cross-discipline teamwork.
• Identify risks and mitigation plans with Chief Scientist alignment.
